My name is Alana and I’m 16 years old. This journey began for my family and I when we went to Rocky Point, Mexico in 2019, and found the sweetest stray pup wandering the beach. We rescued her, and she is now a beloved member of our family, and a light in our lives.
It was heartbreaking for me to think of all of the sweet pups that never found their loving home, so in 2022 I began to create a plan to help. I began to fundraise and speak with other shelters on how I can make a difference. My parents took me on a trip down to Mexico in October of 2022 to visit Barbs Dog Rescue and partner with them.
For those who have not heard of them, Barbs Rescue is an amazing rescue located in Rocky Point Mexico, that has close to 400 dogs in their shelter. The dogs receive amazing care, but unfortunately, not many get adopted from down there, leaving no room for new strays to be rescued. My mission is to help get Barbs dogs adopted from AZ.
I go down to Mexico to pick up a couple dogs at a time, and work to find their forever home. I spend time caring and training each of them so they are all ready to find their family. Each dog gets spayed/neutered, up-to- date vaccinations, and tested to clear them of any diseases they could have possibly picked up in Mexico.
I am super grateful to have this incredible opportunity. I have loved every minute of it so far, and I know I will love whatever waits for me in the future. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and these amazing dogs, it means the world to me, and thank you for reading my story!
